Mark Gordon Co. will Adapt THRONE OF GLASS For TV

Hulu has set producer Mark Gordon to adapt YA series THRONE OF GLASS For TV!

It’s safe to say that Throne of Glass fans everywhere have had a lot to be excited about these past few days. The fifth book in Sarah J. Maas New York Times Bestselling series, titled Empire of Storms, was just released yesterday, and now it has been confirmed that the series will indeed be coming to the small screen. After almost a year with the TV option by the Mark Gordon Company hanging in the air with no news, it was announced today that Hulu will be developing Queen of Shadowsan adventurous fantasy TV show based on Mass’ books.

The Mark Gordon Company will act as the studio for this project, with Kira Snyder penning the script, and Anna Foerster directing the potential pilot. Snyder has previously worked on The 100and wrote fan-favourite episode “Day Trip” for the show.

Queen of Shadows, the title coming from the fourth book in the series, will follow Celaena Sardothien, a female assassin living in Erilea, a continent taken over by a tyrannous king, who has banned the magic that once used to thrive there. Celaena was notorious, and she had a perfect track record – until she got caught. Now Celaena is under the king’s control, hoping to gain even part of her freedom by winning the tournament to become his champion. But as the threat of the king gets bigger and bigger, and Celaena starts to suspect that magic may be involved, she must decide where her loyalties lie: with herself, or with the people of Erilea. Along the way she will make friends, enemies and lovers, but they will all underestimate her, until they see exactly what she is capable of.

Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper of the Mark Gordon Company, who is behind TV hits such as Grey’s Anatomy and Quantico, will executive produce along side Snyder and Foerster.

The Throne of Glass series will include six books in total, with five having been released thus far: Throne of Glass, Crown of Midnight, Heir of Fire, Queen of Shadows, and Empire of Storms. Maas has also written a collection of novellas about Celaena’s past entitled The Assassin’s Blade, a colouring book based on the series was recently released, and it was recently announced that Maas will write a novella about fan-favourite character Chaol Westfall and a compendium about the Throne of Glass world.

Maas shared her excitement over the TV news on Twitter today, expressing her gratitude:

I am a long time fan of both Throne of Glass and Sarah J. Maas, and this series means so much to me and all of its other numerous fans. This news is incredibly exciting, and though things could, of course, still go wrong, as no cast has been set and it is unclear if Hulu has ordered a series or just one episode, I have a very good feeling about this. I absolutely love this story and these characters and I cannot wait to – hopefully! – see them on my TV sometime soon. And in the meantime I’ll be reading Empire of Storms, and I’ll be hanging onto every word.
