We learn more about Lady Tremaine’s motivations in ONCE UPON A TIME season 7 episode 3, entitled “The Garden of Forking Paths.” Remember last week, when at the end of our Once Upon a Time episode recap we asked the question, “Why haven’t we met the other stepsister yet?” Well, wait no longer – we met her in this episode. Sort of. Let’s take a look at this week’s episode, starting with the “Another Realm” flashbacks. In “Another Realm” Tiana (Mekia Cox) is NOT the frog-kissing princess we know. In her first few minutes of screentime, she rescues Cinderella (Dania Ramirez)…

Surprising twists abound for Hook(s) in the second episode of ONCE UPON A TIME’s seventh season, entitled “A Pirate’s Life.” The Once Upon a Time executive producers promised that Hook and Emma’s happy beginning from the end of Season 6 wouldn’t be taken away, and they delivered on that promise in a unexpected way. Let’s take a look at how that happened in “A Pirate’s Life,” starting with what the flashbacks revealed to us. In Storybrooke The episode opened with young Henry (Jared Gilmore) and Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) sparring on the Jolly Roger. When Emma (Jennifer Morrison) walks up and compliments Henry on his swordfighting…

We’re not in Storybrooke anymore, but the Season 7 premiere of ONCE UPON A TIME recreates the essence of the pilot episode. There has been speculation for months about whether or not Season 7 of Once Upon a Time would be worth watching. After all, most of the main cast is gone, and “reboots” are never as good as the original – right? In this case, that doesn’t appear to be true. It’s still too early to judge Season 7, but the first episode, “Hyperion Heights,” hits you in all the right places. Let’s examine it piece-by-piece. There was a…

THE END IS HERE… at least for Season 2 of Shadowhunters. The conclusion just played out and while we enjoyed it, we’re pretty surprised at how many cards the writers threw down on the table. Let’s examine it all, shall we? The first bit of “But why would you do that now?” surprise comes in the form of Jonathan still alive on the beach, clearly worse for wear but functional enough to summon his “mother” from hell and open a major demon rift. I think everyone figured he was alive and would be able to get one more task in…

Secrets and threats are finally coming to a head on Shadowhunters with a few interesting twists. And did we mention all the Malec?! Things start off right where they left off: Max and Jonathan in Alec’s office, where Max soon realizes he’s in way over his head. He impales a blade into Jonathan’s torso, only to have him yank it right back out. It’s not long before Jonathan cracks open the side of Max’s head. Before he can finish the job, he hears voices in the hall, quickly hides the body, and pretends to be waiting for Alec. Before Clary…

Shadowhunters is nearing the end of the season and tonight’s episode, “A Dark Reflection” seems to set things in motion for a gruesome conclusion! The episode starts off with Clary having a nightmare about her time in Lake Lyn, only to be woken up by Jace, who heard her cries through the halls. Of course, he’s shirtless and jump hops right onto her bed to comfort her because the tension is real! The two get to talking about Jonathan, Clary’s brother, when Clary realizes there may be a way to find him. She rushes over to Jocelyn’s box of keepsakes…

In this week’s episode of Shadowhunters, we see that fake Sebastian now has Valentine chained up, apparently wanting some kind of revenge for what Valentine made him into. The show looks like they’re finally investing in the Maia/Simon relationship. It’s Yom Kippur time for Simon, but he’s still in his depressed break-up mood, though he still has plans to go to his family dinner. Maia warns him about how his mood could affect him during this dinner, but he can’t miss it. Back in the institute, Clary is not so stealthily avoiding being alone with Jace, while Alec is trying…

After a week off, Shadowhunters has returned and it’s time to recap! Let’s go! Things start with Simon being utterly brokenhearted over Clary in the Hunter’s Moon. Thanks to a fellow vampire named Quinn, he tries plasma, which is essentially a really good shot… because blood is alcohol now? When the Hunter’s Moon runs out, Quinn takes him to a Bleeder Den, which is essentially a strip club/drug den for vampires and humans who like being bit. Despite some moral resistances, it doesn’t take Simon long to sink his teeth into a willing victim named Heidi. Because he was thirsty,…

Shadowhunters is back and this episode is a BIG ONE that fans of the book have been desperately waiting on. Let’s dive in! We open on a pretty scene. Jace is playing the piano in the morning light, though it’s pretty clear Dom isn’t actually the one playing. Then Sebastian slinks his way on screen to ask him about his youth with Valentine, that awkward Maia hook-up, and his feelings for Clary. They’re interrupted by Clary before Jace can open up too much, but you do get a good idea about just how badly his youth was in Valentine’s care.…

This week, Shadowhunters fans got a killer episode– literally– that really upped the ante but almost imploded in its final seconds. This episode made me really happy until the very end, which I’ll get to at the end. Overall, it’s a dark, edgy horror thriller with sociopolitical undertones. Relationships are still featured, but they aren’t quite so focal. By the angel, GIVE US MORE OF THIS! Knowing full well that Simon really doesn’t have a band anymore, Clary books Simon a gig at The Hunter’s Moon and already has advertisements going. Because that makes sense. They discuss it at the…
