SUPERNATURAL’s Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins get dramatic for Entertainment Weekly’s Halloween Edition.

Yes, we’ve lost Crowley last season, and Castiel as well, albeit temporarily, but the Winchester brothers don’t know that yet. And from the video above and the photos below, you’ll see that Misha Collins will definitely be back for more Supernatural. However, this doesn’t mean Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) will be traveling with just each other to keep company. No, they will have another traveler with them, who goes by the name of Jack.

Jack is played by Alexander Calvert, who is a series regular for this season, and he is the son of Lucifer. If you recall, Jack grew up pretty quickly to become the adult the show needs him to be (the cost of having a minor on set constantly can be pretty pricey and time constraining and definitely not conducive for a show that shoots all hours of the night sometimes.)

Co-showrunner Robert Singer said this about adding Jack to the group: “We just felt there’s so much opportunity with Jack. It’s a big swing again, but somehow we always manage to keep the show grounded in its own reality.”

We definitely don’t begrudge the idea of bringing in new people, especially when it comes to keeping the fan invested season after season. But we all know that the show cannot lost it’s focus, because it’s all about the brothers and their journey, both emotionally and physically.

“At the end of the day, the show is really about these two guys and how great they are together,” Singer says. “They’re the lifeblood of the show.”

With that in mind, Sam and Dean will be dealing with loss yet again, despite gaining a son. Not either of theirs, but still. The turmoil can be insane on this show!

“It’s Dad and Bobby, and now it’s Mom and it’s Cas. It’s this vicious cycle of loss and grief. Dean just needs to feel like there’s hope,” said Jensen Ackles.

Yet, they still manage to find moments in which the characters can be flippant, because, you know, it’s can’t always be sad.

“One of my favorite things about the series is that it can bring levity to situations,” Ackles says. “And I think that’s one of the reasons why this season we’re not going full-mope.”

“Never go full-mope,” adds Padalecki in flippant manner. And we love it.

Supernatural season 13 premieres tonight at 8pm on the CW.
