GOTHAM Makes Surprise Decision To Recast, Age-Up Character

One GOTHAM character will be growing up faster than everyone else next season!

Over the course of the last two seasons, Gotham has introduced us to younger versions of some major characters from the Dark Knight’s massive comic mythology. But next season, one recurring character is going to have one heck of a growth spurt.

The show has announced plans to recast Ivy Pepper and age-up the character into her late teens as she full-on blossoms into Poison Ivy for Season 3.

Executive Producer John Stephen told TV Line that the decision was “in line with all the other story we’ve been telling [in Season 2], but one piece that we’ve kept hidden.”

It seems like a strange choice to age-up one character while keeping others like young Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle youthful as ever, but if there’s a show that’s not too concerned about messing with timelines, it’s Gotham. It’s also fair to consider that Poison Ivy, in her full-out eco-terrorist villain form, tends to be highly sexualized and the current actress in the role, Clare Foley, is only 14-years-old.

Other than Poison Ivy, the show has announced that Vicki Vale and The Mad Hatter with join the ranks in Season 3.

Gotham is due back this fall.
