George R.R. Martin teases Game of Thrones Spin-Offs

George R. R. Martin recently talked about developing more TV adaptations from the Game of Thrones world.

In an interview with EW, he mused that other stories he created to help build the world of A Song of Ice and Fire could one day be adapted for television. While he doubts these stories would warrant a full multi-year series like the HBO version of the books, he thinks smaller, two-hour movies could be a great format for some of his novellas.

“The most natural follow-up would be an adaptation of my Dunk & Egg stories,” he told the magazine. Following the tales of a poor hedge knight named Sir Duncan the Tall and his new squire Egg, it takes place some ninety years before A Song of Ice and Fire. Egg turns out to be the Targaryan prince Aegon, and it chroniclers their adventures together. Notably lighter in style and plot, we would get to see a more peaceful time in the Seven Kingdoms.

Another popular story-arch could be the original Dance of Dragons. The namesake of the latest Game of Thrones novels, the story tells of the last war of dragons. House Targaryan is divided on who will sit on the iron throne next. Full scale war breaks out in the kingdom, and soon they unleash their dragon riders against each other. HBO developed a great historical account of the battle, found below.

While no official announcements has been made, it’s exciting to think about the possibilities that the world of the Seven Kingdoms could go on, even after the current television series is finished. What stories would you like to see adapted in the future?
