Maisie Williams’ fangirling earned Ed Sheeran a cameo on GAME OF THRONES!
Game of Thrones has had its fair share of guest stars, but one musical artist is making a special appearance that’s going to thrill one of the show’s youngest stars.
Ed Sheeran is headed to the show for an appearance in Season 7, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss announced during a panel at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. They arranged the appearance as a surprise for Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark on the show and is a massive Ed Sheeran fangirl.
“For years we were trying to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie and this year we finally did it,” Benioff told the crowd. The news was first reported via EW.
Now, will Ed be there for an Ayra scene or will Maisie just be hanging around set while another scene is filmed with Ed?
In past seasons, musical artists including Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol, Will Champion from Coldplay, Sigur Rós, and Mastodon have been featured on the show, though the showrunners admit it’s not as appealing as it sounds.
“A lot of [music artists] say they would they would like to [be on the show], and then we tell them [shooting a scene] is so boring,” Weiss said. “‘You’re gonna hate this — you’re going to be sitting around three days for 12 hours a day.’”
Game of Thrones returns for Season 7 on July 16, 2017.
