The CW Renews 7 Shows, Including all DC TV Shows

The CW has renewed seven shows for another season, including all four DC TV shows!

At the 2017 TCAs earlier today, Mark Pedowitz, President of The CW, announced that the network will be renewing 7 of its hit shows for another season. The network will renew DC TV shows The Flash, Arrow, Supergirland Legend’s of Tomorrowas well as Supernatural, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin.

“Over the past several seasons, The CW has built a schedule of proven performers, from our lineup of DC superheroes, to critically acclaimed comedies, to sci-fi dramas,” Pedowitz said in the announcement. “Early pickups of these seven series now allow our producers to plan ahead for next season, and gives us a solid base to build on for next season, with original scripted series to roll out all year long.”

When discussing Supernatural’s long reign on The CW, Pedowitz said that they have no plans for an end just yet, the show will have a home on the channel, “as long as the show is performing and the boys want to do it.”

And as for the renewal of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin, which both have lower ratings, Pedowitz said that they are, “critically acclaimed, great programming,” and that, “sometimes you just leave that on the air.” Both Rachel Bloom (Rebecca on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) and Gina Rodriguez (Jane on Jane the Virgin) have won Golden Globes for their roles – the former is 2016, the latter in 2015 – and are both nominated for Golden Globes this year. These shows represent a turning point for the network, which is starting to be critically recognized for its programming.

There’s still no word on if other CW shows will be renewed yet, other than The Vampire Diaries and Reign, which were previously announced to be wrapping up this year.
