TRIS PRIOR (Divergent)
Brief Summary (spoilers)
Full Name: Beatrice Prior
Describes herself as having blonde hair, with grey-blue eyes, and not pretty, but not ugly either. However, Christina tells her that she has striking features, even though they are not beautiful, they are interesting.
She is short, and comes up to Four’s shoulder. Tris says that her body is like a 12 year olds, and if she was taller, could be described as willowy, not childish.
She is a sixteen year old girl who is sarcastic and strong-willed, and dislikes showing weakness. Tris was born in Abnegation though decide to transfer to Dauntless, and must mask the fact that she is Divergent, this secret she must keep hidden from everyone because she’s been warned it can mean death, as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves, or it might destroy her. Tris’ weakness is that she will do what has to be done, and sometimes comes off as a little cruel.

Beatrice is a strong young woman who consistently struggles with falling in line with her Faction which prides itself on its selflessness. Once she joins the Dauntless faction, Beatrice, who takes on the new name Tris, her bravery and strength begin to shine through as she comes into her own. As she works her way through the difficult initiation process while also learning what it means to be a Divergent.

Her most distinguished trait appears to be bravery. Tris is extremely brave, from being the first jumper to ranking first in the initiation. Though she doesn’t seem like it, Tris’ bravery outranks even some of the Dauntless members as observed through her actions. She courageously climbed the ferris wheel during the first stage of initiation when even Four, the man having the least of fears reconsidered joining her. She waded through crowds of Dauntless-controlled soldiers and initiated an attempt to try stop the simulations. Her extreme bravery often lead people to think of her as someone who recklessly throw herself into danger. Four noted that Tris was becoming more of a reckless Dauntless, risking her life for situations that she cannot control when her bravery is at its height.
Tris has been shown to be selfless and quite intelligent at times that solidifies her status as Divergent. She is often scolded in Dauntless for being too selfless, and is teased mercilessly for being a ‘Stiff’, which is being from Abnegation. She is capable of risking her life to save the people she love and to willingly allow herself to make sacrifices no matter the costs. She is as well able to exhibit Erudite traits such as her unusual curiosity and above-average intelligence. Tris is able to pick the most logical response from a particular situation, something an Erudite clearly exhibits. She is told by Four that she is a ‘bad liar’, but that she is ‘deadly smart, brave and selfless’.
She is also shown to have a temper, and although she seems unbreakable, is also sensitive, shown when Tobias insults her (to make sure the other initiates don’t know that he is in a relationship with her), and she slaps him, distraught.
Also unforgiving, this part of her character might have caused Al to commit suicide by jumping into the Chasm when she strongly refused to forgive him after he helped Peter try to kill her.

Why We Like Her (mild spoilers)
I believe Tris to be worthy of the “epic character” title because she, for me, is the whole package. Possessing a little of all the Factions, Tris exudes bravery and strength in all she does. In some ways she almost has superhuman-like strength, but at the same time, she is still just a normal girl, like many of us. – Ashleygirl10
I don’t think I’ve ever read a book where the main character has to witness the deaths of both of her parents and her friends and then can’t even stop to honor them – because she’s being hunted down herself. That’s the life of Beatrice “Tris” Prior. Extremely emotionally strong and good with a gun, this Dauntless Divergent hero is definitely worth the title of epic. Tris struck me as an unforgettable character, she not only cares for her friends and loved ones, but to the point she would sacrifice her own life to save them – and her friends would sacrifice themselves to save her. You don’t need to leave the fence to find a more epic character than Tris! – 4dauntless
PETER WIGGIN (Ender’s Game)
Brief Summary
Peter is the first child of Theresa and John Paul Wiggin and the brother of Ender and Valentine. After the Bugger Wars Peter went on to become the Hegemon of Earth. He was the mastermind behind the personas of Locke and Demosthenes.

Alike his siblings Peter was also monitored to be perceived for Battle School, but his cruel ways made him too sadistic to attend, so was dropped from the program. He held a harsh relationship with both of his siblings. Especially with his brother Ender who he left a traumatic memory of himself. Throughout the book Peter perfectly plans his way into the nets of the political forums in order to plant his seed of reign for the future Hegemon. With his sister he begins to write on the political forums under a pseudonym, Locke, to persuade the government and people. When all is concluded and the Formic war is won Peter kept on going his persona and went to become the Hegemon of Earth.

Why We Like Him
He shows the ambitious side of what everyone tries to hide. His hunger for Hegemon is not totally deranged. If you had the same confidence and intelligence as he, you’d go after your passionate goal as well, right? Though, his character shows to be very cruel Peter isn’t entirely. By the end of the book we learn that he did possess love for his siblings and, though others see it differently, his intentions were for the safety and love he had for Valentine and Ender. I admit I show a liking to the so called ‘villains’ of books but Peter is not at all a villain but a determined adolescent aiming for the world. – ausomejen
