KY MARKHAM (Matched)
Brief Summary (spoilers)
Not a true “citizen,” and not truly matched with any other citizen — holds a boring and laborious job in the beginning of the series. Never quite fitting in as an orphan with a fuzzy past, he doesn’t make many friends. He holds inside of him, however, more knowledge than any of the others are taught at school. He knows how to write, create words, and read those words. He’s dark and mysterious, with dark hair and piercing blue eyes. And he’s an artist — he creates words, he creates and replicates letters, and he has an ability to create captivating drawings in combination with his words. He’s a mystery to most, and if you’re lucky enough to get to know him, he is truly a deep character with simple goals in life.

Ky Markham is an orphan from the Outer Provinces, and moved to Mapletree Borough when he was 10 years old after the Society’s approval. He was not matched, and will never be matched, because he can’t. His parents were killed, and he got adopted by his Aunt, Aida and Uncle, Patrick. He was born Ky Finnow, but changed his last name to his new family. His father got killed in the Outer Provinces because he joined the rising, but Ky did not join the rising so he was safe. His parents got killed in the explosion, and an official caught him and took him to Oria. Ky has tanned skin and dark hair. His hands are red forever, from the heat of the machines at work. He’s mysterious and intelligent, a character of depth and unfortunately cannot have a life like the others.

Why We Like Him (spoilers)
The Society has been peeled in depth, revealed and now we know what it’s like for people like Ky. Ky loves Cassia and Cassia loves Ky, but as two different people of two complete worlds, Ky learns and experiences tough challenges in order to be together. “Cassia. I know which life is my real one now, no matter what happens. It’s the one with you. For some reason, knowing that even one person knows my story makes things different. Maybe it’s like the poem says. Maybe this is my way of not going gentle. I love you.” Quoted by Ky, an amazingly written paragraph that makes us all feel for him. –RomanGirl
This kid is like my dream guy in a book character. He’s intelligent, quiet, artistic, thoughtful. Sometimes I just want a Ky Markham for myself to paint with and hug. – Ice-ridden
