Being the youngest of two siblings he is known as a ‘third’ (the third child) which is mostly frowned upon. Monitored through his whole beginning of life he was is to be accepted into Battle School, a militaristic school in space. His whole existence is planned because he is theorized to be ‘the one’ to command battleships and save humanity from the aliens (a.k.a formics, buggers). In Battle school he is isolated in many ways as part of his training to be a commander. Shut off from family, friends, and teacher support Ender goes through Battle School surviving obstacles, fighting his own battles and gaining a pure respect of soldiers. Decoding the attempts of the teacher’s manipulation Ender begins to breakdown. With the rule changes and no structure Ender gives up to the games. He is graduated to command school where he trains more in commanding and meets his first personal teacher that shows him the techniques of war against the buggers. Finally put into the last battle Ender wins the bugger war for humanity but is left with the burden of genocide.
Why We Like Him (mild spoilers)
As the story revolves around him, how can one not fall in love with the boy? He is so torn apart from friendship, his family, even from his own self. That he has to become “the one” to save humanity. I believe that in being this soldier he never loses himself. Ender never becomes the killer he believes himself to be. His hands may have landed on Bonzo or pressed the trigger, but his heart never lost its warmth. Ender becomes so alone but so strong that you just want to hug him and help him through the battles not played in the battle room. All he needs is compassion to let him know that all aren’t the enemy. -ausomejen
The amount of respect I have for this kid goes beyond what I have for any other fictional character out there. He can handle anything. You throw the hardest obstacle his way and he’ll tread until his feet bleed to get through it–and he’s only a child. – Ice-ridden
RENESMEE CULLEN (Twilight)
Brief Summary (spoilers)
Born on September 11, 2006, (she was born two days before Bella’s birthday) Renesmee Carlie Cullen is the resident vampire/human hybrid member of the Olympic Coven. She is the biological daughter of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, and the imprintee of Jacob Black. Renesmee’s biological paternal grandparents are Edward Sr. and Elizabeth Masen, while on the maternal side, they are Charlie Swan and Renée Dwyer. She is also the adoptive granddaughter of Carlisle and Esme Cullen and the adoptive niece of Jasper and Rosalie Hale and Alice and Emmett Cullen.
Renesmee is considered to be Edward and Bella’s “miracle”, because of what it took to keep her and her mother alive through the pregnancy. She has the special powers to show people her thoughts by touching them and break through their mental defenses. Bella initially gets angry and attacks Jacob for giving her daughter the nickname “Nessie” as well as imprinting on her. Irina of the Denali Coven sees Renesmee and believes she is an immortal child, a human child who had been turned by a vampire. She informs the Volturi, as immortal children are not permitted to live. The Volturi reach Forks intent on killing Renesmee and the Cullens. However, the Cullen family members gather witnesses from around the world to prove that Renesmee is not an immortal child. Alice brings another half-breed, Nahuel, who explains that half-breeds pose no danger to the vampires. Convinced that Renesmee is not a threat, the Volturi leave, and Renesmee and her family are left in peace. She is the only hybrid currently known to show supernatural gifts.
Why We Like Her (mild spoilers)
From the first time Bella really sees her, Renesmee has been described as the perfect child. She’s sweet and intelligent and powerful. Everyone who meets her loves her. She’s just so endearing. – artysgirl (harrypotterfandom.net)
Renesmee made me smile every time she would “speak”. She brought Jacob a relief from his distress but mostly I think her ability is amazing. It brings a touch of mystery to her and a sort of closeness to whoever she would touch and talk to. -ausomejen (endersgamefandom.net)
