EDWARD CULLEN (Twilight)
Brief Summary (spoilers)
Edward Cullen (born Edward Anthony Masen, Jr., on June 20, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois) is a telepathic vampire and a founding member of the Olympic Coven, as well as a main protagonist of the Twilight Saga.
He is the husband of Bella Swan and the father of Renesmee Cullen. Edward is the adoptive son of Carlisle and Esme Cullen, as well as the son-in-law of Charlie Swan and Renée Dwyer. He is the adoptive brother of Emmett and Alice Cullen, and Rosalie and Jasper Hale.
After nearly dying from the Spanish influenza in 1918 in Chicago, Edward was turned into a vampire by Carlisle, as the only alternative to death. Over the next ninety years, the pair gathered a family of vampires around themselves and called themselves “vegetarians”.

Edward Cullen (born Edward Anthony Masen) is a major character, implicated in all of the Twilight Saga films and books. As stated in the first and second novels, he was born on June 20, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois, and was frozen in his 17-year-old body while dying of the Spanish influenza, when he was changed into a vampire by Dr. Carlisle Cullen. As shown in Twilight, he only did so because Edward’s dying mother, Elizabeth, begged him to save Edward. A member of the Olympic Coven, Edward only drinks animal blood and has the special ability to read minds. He falls in love with Bella soon after she arrives in Forks. Edward knows that he could kill Bella easily, a fact that torments him so much that, in the book New Moon, he decided to leave Forks with his family so they wouldn’t be able to hurt her. He returned because he realized he cannot live without her. Edward marries Bella in Breaking Dawn and they have a daughter, Renesmee.

Why We Like Him (spoilers)
Edward never wanted to hurt Bella. As soon as he realized how deeply he was in love with her, he vowed not to endanger her by starting a relationship. Even though Bella refused to let him distance himself from her, he tried to stray away- he actually left her in New Moon because the temptation to hurt her was too great. He also had Bella’s best interests at heart. He wanted to “save her soul” so he refused to sleep with her until after marriage. When she became pregnant with his child, he wanted to kill the baby to protect Bella. Edward is by far the most caring fictional boyfriend from all the fandoms. – artysgirl (harrypotterfandom.net)
MAZER RACKHAM (Ender’s Game)
Brief Summary (spoilers)
Mazer Rackham was a general from the Second Invasion that won the war for Earth. Many consider him just lucky, but it turns out that he actually figured out a pattern of the Formic (Bugger) ships and destroyed the Queen.
After the war, he was sent back into space for 55 years at near the speed of light so he could be alive to train the general for the Third Invasion, Ender.
His whole family died during his trip, so training Ender has all of his attention.

Why We Like Him (mild spoilers)
Mazer, though I hold him equally responsible for Ender’s breakdown as Colonel Graff, I profess a liking to him. He was Ender’s last teacher before the end of the bugger war. He helped Ender to understand his enemy. Despite the fact he isolated Ender, as he had been his whole time in Battle School, he did it with a deep love and friendship. Knowing firsthand the burden of commanding a battle in life or death of humanity. – ausomejen
