Clary Fray was born to Valentine Morgenstern and Jocelyn Fairchild. She was named Clarissa Adele Morgenstern according to her mother’s wishes; while her father, Valentine had wanted to name her Seraphina after his mother. Her mother had turned against her father’s ideals months before her conception. During the time after her mother’s first child was born, she was suffering depression because of her strange feelings of rejection towards her son, Jonathan. Hoping to help Jocelyn, Valentine gave her doses of the angel Ithuriel’s blood, not knowing she was pregnant with Clary.

Clary is portrayed as being incredibly stubborn and a little sarcastic, but is a very caring person, with lots of compassion for her friends and family. Her extreme stuborness might have taken root because of the fact that her mother was extremely protective of her as a child. She goes to extreme lengths to accomplish what she wants, usually putting herself in danger most of the time, leaving those people who care for her, especially Jace and Jocelyn, extremely exasperated. Jace has even stated that her stuborness matches his, which was the reason they could not stand each other when they had first met.

She is also an artist like her mother, Jocelyn.

She is said to look almost exactly like her mother, with green eyes and curly red hair, thought she does not see it, nor does she see the beauty others see in her. In City of Bones, she says that she is a smaller less beautiful and more childlike version of her mother, and sometimes comments on her lack of a chest. She says that she has carroty-colored hair, rather than Jocelyn’s red hair. She also says that she has a light dusting of freckles and is around 5 foot tall. It is mentioned a few times that she dresses in a boyish fashion, wearing T-shirts, jeans and sneakers.

Why We Like Her

Who doesn’t love a ginger? This girl’s personality is as fiery as her hair! Clary is forced into a world she never new existed when her mother is kidnapped. While most girls might sit around and cry or feel helpless, Clary finds out the truth about herself and what she is, a Shadowhunter, and dives in head first to save her mother, with some very attractive help of course. Clary is very feisty. She sometimes goes against orders, but it is always because she needs to help save some one; she is willing to take the risks others would rather take for her. Clary is far from perfect, and she realizes that, but she works with what she has and tries to make the best of things, like her twisted love life. One of the greatest heroines out there. – malfoyorwayland

PETER (Divergent)

Brief Summary

Peter is a Dauntless initiate who was born into Candor. He is a cruel and sadistic human being who has a very brutal violent streak. He does not deal with failure well and takes revenge out on anyone who bests him as he clearly suffers from a fragile ego. He partakes in many heinous activities during his time at the Dauntless compound including kidnapping Tris and allegedly cutting out Edward’s eye to cement his place at the top of the rankings. Even though Tris helps him escape to the Amity compound he proves he is not loyal and cannot be trusted.

Peter is tall, good-looking, with dark, shiny hair that gleams even in relative darkness. His eyebrows turn up naturally, and he has a wide white smile. His nose is long with a narrow bridge, and his eyes are wide and dark green. He’s described as innocent and kind looking. His voice is higher than the average males.

Peter is shown as being extremely cruel. He has been suspected to have stabbed Edward in the eye to get his place, as number one in the rankings and he nearly killed Tris when he and his friends (Drew and Al) threatened to throw her into the chasm.

Peter’s characterization grows more complex in Insurgent. We learn why he saved Tris as he did. He tends to follow the “eye for an eye” moral code and dislikes being indebted to someone. He also seemed to think of his own good more than anyone, by joining the Erudite and becoming a traitor, but in the end he saves Tris.

Why We Like Him

Despite his cruel nature, Peter is definitely ambitious. He does whatever it takes to achieve his goals. He also saved Tris in Insurgent, because he hates owing people. He is capable of doing what’s right, as long as it benefits him in the long run. He is very cunning, but also brave and intelligent. He’s good at what he does. – artysgirl (harrypotterfandom.net)

Peter isn’t easy to love. Even he knows that. But here’s the thing. Even when he’s being evil, and he can be pretty evil, he never pretends to be someone he’s not. He is honest and true to his character throughout both books. In Insurgent we get to know him a little bit more and you can’t help my smile at his story. – Meg (divergentlexicon)
