X-MEN: GAMBIT Starring Channing Tatum Coming To The Big Screen In 2016

With the release date for GAMBIT announced, FOX movies is banking on good luck coming in threes in 2016.

FOX Studios has announced that it will be releasing not two but three X-MEN movies next year. The studio originally announced a 2016 release date for X-MEN: APOCALYPSE before the release of X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. Shortly after, the long anticipated DEADPOOL movie was also announced for the same year. Now, the rumored GAMBIT standalone film starring Channing Tatum has been confirmed and marked down for 2016.

DEADPOOL and GAMBIT mark the franchise’s newest forays into standalone character films since X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE in 2009.

As of FOX’s latest announcement, the franchise schedule for next year is as follows:

  • DEADPOOL – February 12, 2016
  • X-MEN: APOCALYPSE – May 27, 2016
  • GAMBIT – October 7, 2016

The studio has yet to confirm whether GAMBIT will be a direct spin-off of APOCALYPSE.

Either way, Channing Tatum has signed on to play the title character, as known as Remy LeBeau– a smooth-talking Cajun with hypnotic charm and the ability to control kinetic energy. Besides being a ladies man, Gambit is known for his slick gambling skills and fierce martial arts abilities.

Taylor Kitsch originally played Gambit in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, but fans had some serious issues with film’s take on the iconic character. It was announced that Tatum would take over the role last summer during his promotion for 22 JUMP STREET.
