Wolverine 3 Confirmed For R-Rating and Fan Favorite Story Line

Close sources to Hugh Jackman have confirmed a Wolverine 3 movie with an R-rating and the fan favorite storyline “Old Man Logan”.

Though not yet given a title, we have confirmed that the third installment to the Wolverine movie franchise will be a go. Adding to this excitement is the news that the third movie is going to be rated R, allowing for a darker turn in the story line. Thus, leading to the announcement that the movie will follow the fan favorite story of “Old Man Logan”.old_man_logan

Could this be a little help from a recent box office breaker known as Deadpool? Maybe. However, Den of Geek states that Wolverine 3 “has been targeting an R-rating since long before Deadpool’s stunning box office bow”.

Here’s some background and summary of the “Old Man Logan” storyline:

the “Old Man Logan” story by writer Mark Millar and artist Steve McNiven made waves due to its extreme nature when Marvel Comics published it between June 2008 and September 2009. Appearing in the pages of Wolverine #66-72 and Wolverine Giant-Size Old Man Logan, the grim tale takes place in an alternate universe and well into a distant, post-apocalyptic future. Within this dystopia, the United States has been taken over and divided by supervillains (and the Hulk). Magneto, Dr. Doom, and the Red Skull have split America amongst themselves after the mysterious end of the X-Men. And to make matters worse, now that Logan has a wife and two children, he refuses to unleash his claws or become “the Wolverine” again.

This storyline is suppose to be more dark and gruesome with some decapitations and a beaten down Wolverine, who suffers from some PTSD, which makes it a great story line for Hugh Jackman’s final bow to the iconic role.

The film will most likely get a title change before it’s release on March 3rd, 2017. It will be directed by James Mangold who’s most commonly known for his work on The Wolverine. Patrick Stuart will be reprising his role as Professor Charles Xavier. Filming begins next month.
