TWILIGHT Director Catherine Hardwicke To Helm LOVE LETTERS TO THE DEAD

Catherine Hardwicke has official signed on the bring Ava Dellaira’s LOVE LETTERS TO THE DEAD to life!

The director who kicked off the TWILIGHT saga and brought us THIRTEEN and LORDS OF DOGTOWN is set to take us on an emotional roller coaster! Catherine Hardwicke has signed on to helm to movie adaptation of Ava Dellaira’s best-selling YA novel LOVE LETTERS TO THE DEAD.

LOVE LETTERS follows Laurel, a teen who is devastated after the death of her older sister, May, and her mother’s subsequent abandonment. Trying to cope with her grief, Laurel dives headlong into an English project that requires her the write letters to a dead celebrity. Soon, she becomes obsessed with writing letters to famous deceased as a way of coming to terms with her sister’s suicide.

“It’s a beautiful and challenging project about a very important subject,” Hardwicke said of the story in Entertainment Weekly.

Producer Wyck Godfrey of Temple Hill Entertainment knows the story has an important message that Catherine Hardwicke can deliver:

“I knew that somebody was going to do the pivotal movie about dealing with the rash of teenage suicide that has become something of an epidemic in our country. This book was the most responsible way to deal with it, through the eyes of someone who’s been left behind … Catherine is perfect for it. She is the best person I know to put you inside the mind of a 16-year old girl.”

LOVE LETTERS TO THE DEAD is expected to shoot in early 2016. Author Ava Dellaira, who was an Associate Producer on THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER, is also writing the screenplay.
