SIMON VS has been renamed for the big screen!
Becky Albertalli‘s Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda is a smart, quirky, and heartwarming look at a gay teen slowly falling in love with a secret pen pal. But as the book transitions to film, the title becomes a bit of a mouthful in the age of hashtag media.
Perhaps with that in mind, 20th Century Fox has renamed the Simon Vs movie adaptation starring Nick Robinson as the title character. The film will simply be called Love, Simon, a callback to Simon’s email exchange with Blue throughout the story.
Becky Albertalli addressed the change on Twitter and seemed pretty thrilled with the new name overall:
I wanted to share with you all that the Simon movie has a pretty adorable new title. Meet LOVE, SIMON! pic.twitter.com/BaD73ow78s

“I know some of you might be confused about this change and why it happened. Long story short, it’s fairly common for studios to do this,” she continued. “Authors don’t title movies, but I’m pretty thrilled with this one. The movie feels like a love letter. Now the title does too.”
Love, Simon comes to theaters on March 16, 2018. With only six months to go, hopefully we’ll be getting a trailer soon!
