ROGUE ONE star Riz Ahmed could soon be playing a popular Marvel character!
There’s nothing quite like a twisted anti-hero to spice up a story, and for the Spider-Man universe, that anti-hero is Venom aka Eddie Brock, a man taken over by an symbiotic alien being that gives him wild new powers including super strength, shape-shifting, and camouflage.
The character was conceived as a villain and portrayed as such in Spider-Man 3 by Topher Grace, but that version didn’t sit well with audiences. So Sony is giving Venom a refresh start in a new solo movie based on his dark but ultra-witty persona in more recent Marvel comics, starring Tom Hardy.
Now, Riz Ahmed of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story fame is joining the mix, according to Variety. Though his character hasn’t been revealed, he will reportedly play “a popular Marvel Comics character” if negotiations work out.
Could he be the film’s previously announced villain, Carnage? With so little known about the production and a vast universe of Marvel characters as possibilities, it’s too soon to say for sure.
Venom will be directed by Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and is due out on October 5, 2018.
