Mark Strong to take on villain role in SHAZAM!

KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE’S Mark Strong is in talks to play SHAZAM archnemesis Doctor Sivana.

Following the announcement of Zachary Levi taking on the role of DC’s Shazam!, it has been announced by The Hollywood Reporter that British actor Mark Strong will be taking on the role of the title character’s longtime archnemesis, Doctor Thaddeus Bodog Sivana.

Doctor Sivana first appeared in Whiz Comics #2 in 1940, opposite Shazam, also known as Captain Marvel (not to be confused with Marvel’s Captain Marvel, who has her own movie coming out starring Brie Larson.)  He is known to be Shazam’s biggest and most frequent foe, and is known as a genius-level intellect, inventions, and powerful skills as a manipulator and strategist.

Strong is not new to playing supervillains as he played Sinestro in the disappointing movie Green Lantern, which starred Ryan Reynolds in the titular role, and the main villain Mafia boss Frank D’Amico in Kick-Ass.

However, he has also played good guy operative Merlin in the comics-based movies Kingsman: The Secret Service and this fall’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle.

Shazam! is looking to start production in February 2018.
