Jennifer Aniston becomes first cast member in DUMPLIN’

DUMPLIN’ finds its first cast member with former Friend Jennifer Aniston, who’ll be playing the title character’s mother.

The book Dumplin’ was optioned by Disney in 2015, the same year of its release. Now it’s two years later, and we finally have word of the project moving from “in development” to “pre-production” with this announcement.

The story centers on a confident teen girl — named Dumplin’ by her former beauty queen mom (Aniston) — taking a job at the local fast-food joint. She meets a former jock whom she likes and he seems to like her back, but when she begins to doubt herself, she sets out to take back her confidence by entering a beauty pageant and gaining respect for her mother.

Kristin Hahn wrote the screenplay adaptation of Julie Murphy’s novel, and will be producing the film as well. Joining her is Michael Costigan, who was the executive producer of the 2005 Academy Award winning Brokeback Mountain, Ridley Scott’s Alien-prequel, Prometheus, and the upcoming Ghost in the Shell.

Anne Fletcher will be directing the movie, which should make us all highly hopeful as she directed such comedies as 27 Dresses and The Proposal.

Jennifer Aniston was last seen on the big screen in the holiday movie, Office Christmas Party. She also was in The Yellow Birds, which has so far only been screened at the Sundance Film Festival.
