J.K. Rowling Announces 5 FANTASTIC BEASTS Films, Plus New Featurette Debuted at Fan Event

J.K. Rowling has confirmed that there will be five FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM FILMS!

J.K. Rowling announced today at an IMAX Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them fan event that the series, originally thought to be a trilogy, will include five films, most likely to be penned by Rowling herself. A new featurette was also shown at the fan event, which includes some never before seen footage, and some insight from J.K. Rowling on how this story connects to the story we know from the Harry Potter novels. Watch it below:

This featurette starts off with an homage to The Boy Who Lived, which, I am not going to lie, did make me tear up a bit. As well, Rowling mentioned that “there are ways in which we connect to the Potter books that I think people will find surprising.” I cannot wait to see how this story connects to the story we know, and some of the wizarding history that we only glimpse in Potter, especially with the shot of the Deathly Hallows symbol, and the mention of Gellert Grindelwald in this featurette. It seems like J.K. Rowling is just as excited, saying that, “this is always where I was interested in going.”

However, where exactly that is, we don’t know. David Yates, Fantastic Beasts director, also revealed that he believes the other films will take place in different American cities, instead of just New York.

Pottermore also released the film’s theme song last week, which included a nod to Harry Potter, with the first few bars being the iconic “Hedwig’s Theme” from the Potter films.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them follows Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) a magizoologist who has just arrived in 1920’s New York City along with his collection of magical beasts, which he keeps in a suitcase. However, when his case is accidentally opened, some of the beasts escape, and Newt must work with his new friends to find them before they wreck havoc on the city, and expose wizards to the world.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theatres on November 18th, 2016.
