J.J. Abrams, director of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, has signed on to direct STAR WARS: EPISODE IX.

You heard that right! J.J. Abrams will be returning to the Star Wars universe to direct Star Wars: Episode IX, which has yet to have an official title.

Abrams, who directed the first of the rebooted franchise with Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, will now be taking over as director, and we have a feeling that this time, he’ll be sticking around through to the finished product.

After previous director Colin Trevorrow and Disney could not agree on the script, it seems they both decided it best that they not continue work on the project. For fans, it seemed another hiccup in a disturbing trend of directors lost. However, with Abrams back, and working on the script with Chris Terrio, things are starting to look more positive.

“With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said in the release.

We’re just hoping they can start production not too far behind from their planned start, which was February 2018.

As for Trevorrow, he’s currently working on post-production for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the sequel to the 2015 hit reboot dinosaur movie.
