GAME OF THRONES Creators To Write, Produce New STAR WARS Series

The STAR WARS franchise will branch out with a little help from the men behind GAME OF THRONES!

David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the showrunners behind HBO’s hit show Game of Thrones, are headed to a galaxy far, far away.

The two have been tapped by Lucasfilm to create a brand new series in the  Star Wars franchise. The details are tightly under wraps, but according to the official statement, their work will be completely separate from the Skywalker Saga and the trilogy Rian Johnson is developing.

Benioff and Weiss are also developing one of the five potential Game of Thrones spinoff series in the works at HBO.

“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since,” Benioff and Weiss said in the statement. “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”

In the case of both the Game of Thrones spinoff and Star Wars, development doesn’t necessarily guarantee that the project will be filmed and released. But these guys hold some serious storytelling prowess under their belt, so here’s hoping!
