FANTASTIC BEASTS 2 Reveals New Plot, Character Details

As production begins on Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them 2 begins today, Pottermore released the scoop on several new  details over the course of four articles. While some of the information was previously gleaned by astute audiences or released as rumors, this is the first official confirmation about the film.

The articles first confirmed that the film will feature a team-up between Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and young Albus Dumbledore, who will be played by Jude Law. It will dive into Dumbledore’s dark history with Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp), as well as why he stood up for Newt when he was about to be expelled from Hogwarts.

The latest from the studio is that, in the new film, Grindelwald will ‘make a dramatic escape’ from MACUSA custody, forcing Albus Dumbledore to join the wizarding world’s efforts to stop him.

The villainous Grindelwald has been busy ‘gathering more followers to his cause – elevating wizards above all non-magical beings’. Dumbledore will look to his former student Newt for help.

The search for Grindelwald will stretch across continents, moving from New York to London to Paris, but that doesn’t mean we’re leaving characters from the first film behind. The series announced the return of not only wizarding sisters extraordinaire Tina and Queenie Goldstein (Katherine Waterson and Alison Sudol), but also memory-marred no-maj Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler) and the troubled Obscurial, Credence, played by Ezra Miller.

The film will still be treat fans to plenty of new characters. We’ll finally see Zoe Kravitz in action as Leta Lestrange, as well as Callum Turner as Newt’s “war hero” older brother, Theseus Scamander. We’re also hearing tidbits about other roles involved in the sequel, including “a bounty hunter called Grimmson, played by Icelandic actor Ingvar Sigurdsson; William Nadylam as a wizard called Yusuf Kama; Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Skender, the owner of a wizarding circus and Claudia Kim as one of the circus’s ‘featured attractions’.”

Despite all the other details, the film doesn’t have an official title yet. It’s due out on November 16, 2018.
