Disney’s MOANA Announces Star-Studded Voice Cast

Meet the supporting cast and characters in Disney’s MOANA!

Disney’s Moana first set sail with only one voice actor announced: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who voices Moana’s demigod companion Maui. After an extensive search including thousands of girls, the production found their title character in Hawaiian teen Auli‘i Cravalho. Now we’re finally getting a look at the voices behind the films supporting characters thanks to USA Today!

Moana’s parents Chief Tui and Sina will be voiced by Temuera Morrison and Nicole Scherzinger. Chief Tui has seen some terrible things in his lifetime and wants Moana to stay away from the water. Her mother, Sina, is more supportive of Moana’s dreams and tries to play the peacemaker, even if she doesn’t totally understand her daughter’s desires.

Moana gets the most support from her grandmother, known as Gramma Tala, who will be voiced by Rachel House. It’s Tala that dares Moana to dream and live out the adventures that make her happy.

But the story also features some evil forces, including 5-foot crab Tamatoa, who comes from the ancient realm of monsters called Lalotai and has stolen Maui’s precious fish hook. He’ll be voices by the hilarious Jemaine Clements from Flight of the Concords, who added in “very quirky, funny Jemaine-isms,” according to director Ron Clements.

Moana  has a friend in a rooster by the name of Heihei, who’s not the brightest in the bunch. But the voice behind his sound effects is none other than Alan Tudyk, an accomplished actor (think Firefly and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) who has previously voiced small roles in Frozen and Zootopia. It seems Disney considers him a bit of a good luck charm!

Moana’s best friend is a much quieter character– an adorable baby pig named Pua! He doesn’t realize that Moana’s dreams aren’t well-received in the village and he’s happy to tag along.

Moana and Maui will also meet a new, startling class of warriors on the journey. They’re called the Kakamora and yes, they’re tiny, vicious coconuts!
