Colin Trevorrow Drops Out Of STAR WARS: EPISODE IX

Another STAR WARS director is out due to “differing visions”.

There’s a pattern developing in the Star Wars universe as Disney and Lucasfilm work to crack out new cinematic content.

Colin Trevorrow first signed on to direct Star Wars: Episode IX in August 2015 after the success of Jurassic World, but recently, a statement from Lucasfilm announced his departure from the project.

A short statement from the official Star Wars website reads:

Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways onĀ Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon.

This is the second time this summer that the Star Wars franchise “mutually parted ways” with those set to direct a film following alleged creative differences. In June, the studio fired Phil Lord and Chris Miller from the still untitled young Han Solo spin-off and replaced them with veteran director Ron Howard.

In 2015, Josh Trank was booted from an unknown Star Wars anthology film after his take on Fantastic Four bombed in theaters. Trevorrow had a similar issue this summer as his movie The Book of Henry was lambasted by critics and audiences alike. At least officially, the box office failures had nothing to do with either director dropping out of their Star Wars project.

The studio has yet to name a replacement for Trevorrow, but the rumors are certainly flying and it seems every fan has a wishlist.
