CARS 3 Clip Shows Jackson Storm’s Advantage

See the tech that Jackson Storm uses to win in a new CARS 3 clip!

Lightning McQueen’s latest nemesis takes front and center in a new clip from Disney/Pixar’s Cars 3 via EW!

As Jackson Storm, voiced by Armie Hammer, destroys Lightning on the race track, a show segment shows sportscaster Natalie Certain, voiced by Kerry Washington, explaining just how Jackson manages to be the fastest and more agile racer to date.

The movie certainly has a competitive edge, but it wasn’t always quite so high octane. In a recent interview at SlashFilm with storyboard supervisor Scott Morse and writers Mike Rich, Kiel Murray, and Bob Peterson, the team revealed that major new supporting character Cruz Ramirez was originally a “male farmer”.

“Farmer is kind of a weird word,” explained Kiel Murray, “but he was in a farming family. The film was set in California. So it’s a lot different.”

Bob Peterson also said that millennial rival and allies are different for Lightning McQueen, but their inclusion isn’t a hit meant for younger generations.

“It mainly grows out of McQueen unable to accept the truth that he’s a little older and obsolete and the rest of the world reminding him of that and forcing him to deal with it. So you want a nice crop of very young cars who are fast and very contrasted to him. Even Cruz, who’s with him, is very technological and is fast, and is just different. He’s from an older generation, and it’s all gotta point him into learning what he needs to learn. So that’s why they’re there, to really throw him off balance.”

Cars 3 hits theaters on June 16, 2017.
