Take a Look Back with Our 2017 Book-to-Movie Year in Review

Release Date: November 17, 2017
Domestic Gross: $122,579,689
Worldwide Gross: $198,479,689
Audience rating: 8.1/10 (IMDb); 90% (Rotten Tomatoes); 66 (Metacritic)

Excellent performances by the cast all around. Jacob Tremblay, Julia Roberts, and Izabela Vidivic all scored 9+ out of 10, while Noah Jupe scored 8.5.

Favorite scenes were when Auggie and Jack Will were confronted by some bullies at camp and were defended by their former bullies, and Auggie’s overwhelmed by new friends he’s made. Some of the side stories, including Miranda’s and Via’s friendship and their own journeys were very insightful, as was the reasoning for Julian’s attitude towards Auggie, involving Julian’s parents.

With only four movies adapted from YA books, 2017 was a low for YA. However, 2018 looks to have better prospects with Every Day, Love, Simon and the final movie, The Death Cure, in the Maze Runner trilogy coming out this first half of the year.
