Gore Verbinski in talks to direct Fox’s GAMBIT

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN Director Gore Verbinski is in talks to direct the Fox’s X-MEN spinoff, GAMBIT.

Though we haven’t heard much regarding what’s going on with the Gambit movie that still has Channing Tatum in the titular role, we’ve now heard that Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski is in negotiations to direct the X-Men spinoff movie.

For a while, we weren’t sure the movie was going to happen, and in all honesty, we’ll probably still be skeptical about it until, possibly, it goes into actual production. But if Gore Verbinski signs on, then it’s one step closer for it being a reality that we’ll be seeing Tatum put on a Cajun accent and throwing his energized playing cards. The movie had two directors tied to the project prior to Verbinski: Ruper Wyatt and Doug Liman, who is currently directing the YA adapted movie Chaos Walking.

This could be a big step forward for Verbinski, as his most recent films haven’t turned a profit (2013’s The Lone Ranger was a production disaster, and, with 2016’s A Cure for Wellness, both were box office bombs.) Considering his success with the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films, there’s still hope that he can create fun, adventurous films like those, with Gambit.

As for the character, Gambit aka Remy LeBeau has appeared on the big screen once, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, with Taylor Kitsch playing the Louisiana native.

No release date has been set for Gambit.
