Is Delirium ready to take on another great battle of the fandoms, especially one that pits our favorite book couples against one another? If you think so, here’s an opportunity to get Delirium in the running for the Books Edition of BattleShips over at Hypable!

Tell Hypable that the couples in Delirium are some of your favorites in literature by going to the Battleships Books Edition nomination page and voting up the existing comment left by a fan by the name of Simon, which originally nominated the series for inclusion. It’s currently about 15 comments down the page, the ninth nomination listed! The more a title is “Voted Up” in the comments, the more likely it is to be included in BattleShips!

Remember, making a second comment will not increase Delirium’s chances! Please hit the up arrow below Simon’s existing comment!

If Delirium is included in the competition, we’ll be sure to tell you when to vote!

We all love the Delirium trilogy so much that when Requiem ended, we wanted MORE! Lauren Oliver got her start in writing with fan fiction “sequels” to her favorite books, so she very purposefully left the story open-ended so fans could interpret the end on our own. Some of us have found that easy to do, others not so much!

Click under the cut to see how we’re coming together as a fandom to work out our Requiem feels!

There’s a lot of questions:
What happened to our favorite Delirium characters?
Where do their loyalties lie?
What happened to Portland?
Will love ultimately save the day and the save the country?

YOU TELL US!

In conjunction with Lauren Oliver and her team, Delirium Fandom created REQUIEM ENDINGS, where fans can submit their continued ending to the Delirium trilogy! Send us your fan fiction, graphics, photos, or videos depicting what YOU think happened in the world of Delirium after Requiem’s final page! All theories and plot lines are welcome.

SUBMIT YOUR ENTRY HERE.

Just a few general rules:
1) All entries will be read by an admin before getting approved.
2) Any submissions meant to degrade or put down others’ ideas will not be approved.
3) Keep it PG-13!

We know that the Delirium fandom to creative to the max and we are SO EXCITED to see what you guys come up with!

Blog YA Yeah Yeah features and interview with Lauren Oliver as part of their Feature Friday slot, In which Lauren discusses her writing as well as answering some off the wall questions.

Here are two of the featured questions in the interview;

As well as writing, you’re a co-founder of Paper Lantern Lit, a literary development company. How much day-to-day involvement do you have with Paper Lantern, and what’s the best thing about working with authors who write for Paper Lantern?

LO: I’m definitely involved day-to-day; editing and developing stories for Paper Lantern Lit takes up sixty percent of my daily work time at least. And the best part of working with the authors is watching their skill sets grow over time. It’s extremely gratifying.

If you could host a literary dinner party, which six authors or characters would you invite?

LO: That’s so hard! I’ll pick authors, living and dead: Agatha Christie, Ian McEwan, JK Rowling, Henry James, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Dr. Seuss.

Lauren Oliver did a beautiful, honest interview with The Independent in which she discusses the Delirium trilogy, her hopes for American teens, and the painful moments in her life that influenced her writing.

Here are some highlights!

On Requiem and the lack of happy endings:
“It’s a coming-of-age story. Part of what adults have to live with is ambiguity. It’s not like you make a choice and find happiness hiding behind one of three doors looking like Kim Kardashian. You have to choose what you want every day. There is no one point at which you get your happy ending.”

On Lena and Annabel’s relationship:
“That theme of betrayal reflected the fact that a person I dated for four years and was engaged to died at 29 due to substance abuse issues. I only realised it in retrospect, but I think Lena’s agonising about her mother reflected my own feelings – why wasn’t I good enough to stay alive for?”

On young adults in America:
“The good news is that teenagers agree on the most divisive issues in America: 75 per cent of young people support gay marriage. There is definitely the sense that future generations can heal the rift in the US.” She says much the same about their attitude to literature. “I have never met a teenager – and I probably meet 5,000 a year – who prefers ebooks to real books. Their parents like ebooks. Teens like to own a book and have it on their shelves.”

College student Dylan Basile, winner of a phone call with Lauren Oliver, has used his conversation with the author to create a wonderfully detailed book review.

Here is Dylan’s beautifully-written review on “Requiem” and the trilogy in general:

*Many thanks to DeliriumFandom.com for the insightful conversation with Lauren Oliver (March 26, 2013).

***THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS!***

After many tears and screams of agony, the conclusion to the Delirium trilogy by Lauren Oliver is finally here.

Requiem is Oliver’s fourth young-adult novel, behind Before I Fall (2010), as well as Delirium (2011) and Pandemonium (2012), the first two books of the Delirium trilogy.

The trilogy is told from the point of view of Lena, a teenage girl who lives in Portland—sounds normal enough, right? Except this is a society where love is seen as a disease, and those who refuse to get the cure that voids the ability to love either jump the border into the Wilds (an area outside of the country that is more or less unguarded) or get thrown in the Crypts (prison). Most of the world building took place in Delirium, which sees Lena inside Portland and living an average run-of-the-mill life. In Pandemonium, Lena has fled to the Wilds after falling in love.

This brings us to Requiem, which sees Lena and the group of Invalids she is traveling with—those who are on the run in the Wilds from the cure—contemplating their next move. As Lena tries to move forward, her past is bogging her down. She is reunited with Alex, the boy she first fell in love with and the main reason she’s in the Wilds in the first place, after believing him to be dead. She meets her mother again, and their relationship is far from simple. Oh, and half of the book is told from the point of view of Hana, Lena’s ex-best friend who lives peacefully in Portland and is due to marry her husband (and newly inaugurated mayor) any day now. Can you say “tension”?

Thankfully, Oliver crafts each of these highly tense scenes with elegance and grace. She uses many nature-themed images and metaphors, just like in Delirium and Pandemonium. Oliver says that growing up in West Chester and exploring the woods with her sister has led to a fondness of nature that is prevalent throughout the trilogy. “Nature has the potential to conceal magic,” she adds. Fires, too, run throughout the novel; they morph from simple campfires in the Wilds to destroying everything in their path in Portland.

Hana’s return is a welcome addition, since she was completely absent from Pandemonium (minus Lena briefly mentioning her). Since Requiem is essentially about emotional discovery and evolution, Oliver says that as she began writing the novel, “I felt like I was missing something. A third of the way through was when I decided to include Hana’s story.” Oliver’s decision pays off: Hana’s story is extremely compelling, perhaps even more so than Lena’s. Because Hana is on the inside of the border and marrying a leader in the cause, we see the flawed, extreme tactics that the government is willing to employ in order to keep the “peace,” including shutting off power for those who fail to cooperate. This is invaluable information seeing as Lena and the others only receive information from limited inside sources.

Once inside the Portland borders, Lena is reunited with her cousin Grace. Although Grace communicated to only Lena at the time (and even still very briefly), Grace was left behind by Lena when she crossed into the Wilds. Lena’s reunion and rescue of Grace is necessary for her story to end since Lena has thought of Grace during her journey in the Wilds and contemplated how she is coping without her. Grace, Oliver says, “was always a passive-resister” against the cure. That Lena is once again there for Grace, and that Grace is able to comfort Lena as well, allows her story to come full circle.

Still, Oliver leaves many stories open ended. There are implications that Lena’s complex love life may become simpler, but nothing is set in stone. As for Hana, she leaves more confused than ever, walking off into the distance without a final goal. The rebellion continues and there is a large amount of rebuilding to be done, but Lena’s story has come to an end. When asked if she would ever consider revisiting the Delirium world, Oliver replied with, “Never say never.” However, with many other books in the works, including Panic (due out next year), chances are slim that we’ll hear from Lena and/or Hana in the foreseeable future.

Fans shouldn’t fret though: What exists in Requiem ties up just as many knots as it leaves open, while still letting readers determine a few details for themselves. A pilot based on the Delirium trilogy has recently been filmed and will likely be picked up by Fox for the 2013-2014 season. Lena’s story may be over with Requiem, but her legacy has just begun.

I hope we see much more from Dylan in the future! He’s certainly an Invalid in our book!

Journalist Ben Falk recently published his interview with Lauren Oliver via Huff Post Entertainment

Huff Post Entertainment feature the interview in which Lauren is asked about her Delirium trilogy without revealing any spoilers for those who have yet to read Requiem.
Within the interview Lauren also answers questions on her stand alone novel Before I Fall, The Delirium TV series and Fifty shades of Grey!

Be sure to check the full interview out here!

Here is a taster in the mean time;

You also do something quite radical writing-wise by having the book told in alternating viewpoints between Lena and a cured Hana. Why?

I never intended that. But then I was writing Requiem and it was not working for me. And I realised so much of the book is founded on the fear of the Cure and we’ve never seen the Cure from anybody’s perspective except those who are resistant to it. I knew we’d have to go back to Portland. And being able to see Portland and see some of the characters from Delirium not just as a footnote at the end of the book was really important.
