Before Emma Watson was the name of a HARRY POTTER star, it was the name of the protagonist in an unfinished Jane Austen novel.
THE WATSONS, an unfinished manuscript by the famous author, tells the story of a young woman named Emma Watson forced to return to a haphazard life with her birth family after the uncle who had adopted her as a child passes away, leaving her with no inheritance.
Written between 1804 and 1805, Austen abandoned the novel after the death of her father. It was sold for nearly £1 million in July of 2011 and will be displayed at Austen’s Chawton, England home-turned-museum until December 16th.
This is the largest portion of a Jane Austen manuscript out there, her only other manuscript still in existence being a mere two chapters of PERSUASION.
