Missed connections turn into fresh disasters in Becky Albertalli and Adam Silveria’s WHAT IF IT’S US!
Two powerhouse YA authors have co-written a contemporary romance together and we suddenly need this book in our lives.
Becky Albertalli (Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda) and Adam Silvera (They Both Die At The End) have been collaborating on What If It’s Us, the story of a missed connection between teens Arthur and Ben that transforms into something more, for about three years. In a rare move, it will be co-published by both authors’ publishing imprints, HarperTeen and Balzer + Bray.
Here’s the description according to Publishers Weekly, who broke the news:
What If It’s Us opens as Arthur and Ben meet at the post office as Ben is shipping his ex-boyfriend’s things back to him. They subsequently endure the frustration of knowing there was a missed connection, before the universe pushes them back together again in a series of failed “first” dates.
“We are painfully obsessed with Arthur and Ben. We’ve been talking about them as if they’re real people for over three years,” Albertalli told the publication. In the novel, Albertalli writes from the perspective of Arthur while Silvera writes from the perspective of Ben.
When it comes to just how emotional the story will be, Adam Silvera thinks What If It’s Us will keep fans on their toes. “Becky is known for making your heart happy, and I have a reputation for tearing it out,” he said. “We can’t wait to hear what readers think about where we landed.”
What If It’s Us is due out in Fall 2018.
